DBR UPDATE 2 MARCH 2007
The year 2007 has
started out with a bang. There has been a lot
happen since my last update and it will be an
extremely busy year. I wish I could say that
things are slowing down and it will be an
uneventful year for everyone, but that has not
been the case so far and will not be the case
throughout this coming year.
The last part of 2006
we did get a national contract with Yulista, our
Cannon AFB PMEL contract after a week of tough
negotiations. We are looking forward to getting
the new command in at Cannon so thing will
stabilize a bit up there.
Our one Boeing member
at the Flight Simulator at Cannon will most likely
be going away in the future when the commands
change and the F-16’s leave.
NewTec was awarded the
contract at White Sands late last year and our
people have been extremely busy with mission after
mission. Believe it or not, we are about a year
out from going into negotiations with NewTec
again. We have to get our negotiators elected and
start preparing.
Last year was finished
with negotiation with Jacobs over a NASA. Jacobs
is one of the contractors that replaced Honeywell
at NASA. The government split that contract and
two companies are now there. Jacobs has the
technical side of it and A Company called EASI has
the facilities and maintenance. Negotiations with
Jacobs, has not been concluded as of yet and we
hope to resume and finish these Negotiations in
the near future.
In February we
negotiated a contract with the Fireman at NASA.
They are now part of EASI Company and under Local
Lodge 392 in Las Cruces. We negotiated a fair
contract for the fireman and they will now have a
stand alone contract and be separated from the
guard unit they were previously part of. Thanks
to the Firemen negotiators for their outstanding
work and dedication. A super job by all!
Later this year we
have negotiations with SGT located out by NASA,
EASI at facilities side of NASA, the Calium Guards
at NASA, and the Wackenhut Guards at NASA. Also,
we have negotiations with EG&G and Ahntech in the
fall.
DynCorp at Holloman
lost the bid to renew their contract at Holloman
AFB and the new Contractor M-1 is scheduled to
take over that contract on 1 April 2007. We
continue to prepare for negotiations with this
contract in the June time frame. It is never an
easy time when we have a contractor change, but
hopefully we will pull through this change with
the everyone’s jobs in tact. We will update you
as we know what is happening. We are scheduled to
meet with M-1 on the 12th and 13th
of March and should know more at this time. We do
know that DynCorp protested the contract award,
and that is in the process right now.
Arbitrations seem to
be going well. We had one at EG&G in the fall of
last year that we won and a termination at the
Wackenhut Guard Unit in December that we won.
The big step that the
Local has made this year is the have a vote on the
purchase of a building for the Union Hall. The
membership voted to purchase this building and
this is all in the process of the approval of the
Grand Lodge. Once this is complete we will move
forward and hopefully be in the new building by
this summer. We will update you as we proceed.
As always, it is a
pleasure serving you as your DBR. The support I
have received from each and every one of you has
been great. I look forward to serving you
throughout this year and the future. Any
question or concerns you might have just get in
touch with me and we will get you an answer.
Thank you for your
support.
