LL 2515 Wins Arbitration Appeal

The United States District Court for the District of New Mexico upheld an arbitration opinion and award that benefited an IAM member at NewTec, who had been improperly reclassified, resulting in a drastic reduction in wages. Directing Business Representative Bud Duryea, of IAM Local Lodge 2515 in Alamogordo, NM, brought the case to arbitration in 2007, contending NewTec had violated the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement when they reduced his pay. NewTec later appealed the award.

As a result of the decision, the arbitrator’s original requirement that back pay be issued from the point of reclassification to present stands. Member Steve Calhoun received $9,544.70 in back pay, thanks to the hard work and diligence of his Local Lodge and Tanner and Associates.

"Congratulations to Brother Calhoun and DBR Bud Duryea for their patience and persistence in this matter," said Western Territory GVP Lee Pearson. "This is a testimony to what IAM representation can do for our members, who might not otherwise be able to defend themselves from employer actions."

Local Lodge 2515 represents approximately 380 members employed by NewTec at the White Sands Missile Range. NewTec was formed in 1997 by Computer Science Corporation (CSC), Lockheed Martin, TRAX International and Northrop Grumman.
